COLLECTIVE stands with Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwavidyalaya, Wardha!

Stop arbitrary department shutdowns and threats to protesting students!

VC Rajneesh Kumar Shukla must go!

The students of Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishwa Vidyalaya (MGAHV), Wardha, have been on dharna against the administration for shutting down departments during the semester citing ‘lack of funds’. Students on protest have been issued a show cause notice, threatening disciplinary action.

A student from marginalised background pursuing BCom (2022-26 batch) was forced to shift to BBA after completing an academic year. VC Rajneesh Kumar Shukla justified this arbitrary move saying that there were not enough funds to continue a course given the number of students. Another woman student of BA (Hons.) Political Science was asked to appear for the Sociology exams in the final hour.

Since 23 February, students are on indefinite dharna against the MGAHV administration. Kuldeep Yadav, a student on protest, has been issued show cause notice threatening disciplinary action. VC Shukla, who faces serious plagiarism charges for copying his PhD dissertation, is being protected despite such mismanagement because he is a political stooge of the RSS BJP regime. Previously under VC Shukla, in 2019, 6 MGAHV students were expelled just for writing a letter to PM Modi! A nationwide agitation led to their expulsion being revoked.

Such cases highlight the continuous fund cut for the Universities, leading to the lack of Professors or the withdrawal of running courses, and the shrinking democratic spaces as a result of such privatisation. Universities should be made student-oriented the implementation of NEP 2020 has worsened the situation.

COLLECTIVE stands with the students of MGAHV, Wardha who have raised their voice in protest, breaking the silence enforced after the Covid-19 lockdown. The central BJP Government should immediately stop fund cuts and increase the state spending on universities.
